LEAP is a grassroots effort that depends on the energy and skill of neighbors teaching and learning from each other. There are a number of ways people participate in LEAP activities.
LEAP is currently accepting applications from volunteers who are willing to spend Tuesday and/or Thursday night from 6:30 – 7:30 pm helping a school-age child improve his/her reading skills. No previous tutoring/teaching experience or Spanish language proficiency is necessary. Staff train all our volunteers and are constantly available for support. To apply to become a tutor, please complete our tutoring application.
Our PreK teachers always need an extra set of hands. If you could commit to being with our four year olds one morning each week on a regular basis, please submit an application to become a preK assistant. Our assistants help prepare materials, clean up and spend time with the kids!
Our Summer Blast Camp will be led by adult staff with the help of teen counselors. We are glad to provide documentation to enable our volunteers to report hours for the Mayor's Summer Volunteer Award.
