Meeting the needs of our families in the wake of the Coronavirus
Like all organizations that work with people, we are shifting the way we work to meet the needs of our community. Cash donations are especially useful right now, because we can deploy them to the areas of greatest need as things evolve.
With the help of Porch Durham, and the Durham Public Schools Foundation, we believe our families have sufficient food. We have distrubuted waves of books and art supplies to keep our children learning. We distributed and borrowed enough tablets that all of our tutoring students were able to connect with their schools last spring. Our goal for this summer is to raise enough funds so that all of our preschool students can have a tablet as well. Although we hope it will be possible to have "real" school soon, we will beginning our year online. Too many of our youngest students had to access their teachers' videos through a phone last spring. Our preschool teachers have done an excellent job of adapting their instructional techniques, but the children must have access through more effective devices. Our students face so many challenges; we are not going to let them stand on the wrong side of the digital divide. Your donation can help us close it!
